The Product: In addition to the implied social meaning for green technology, Potential Difference is also the electrical science definition of voltage. Potential DifferenceTM, Inc. was created in 2007 to develop the Luxury Electric automobile, one of the world's first, possibly the very first, all electric luxury five passenger sedan powered by Lithium Ion Phosphate batteries. We are not aware of any other automobile of that description. The first demonstration prototype has been built by converting a brand new 2007 Acura TL Type S automobile from gasoline power to all electric power.
Availability: Currently, this product is intended for wealthy early adopters of new green technology. The conversion prices are negotiable and intended to help further the development of this technology. We can currently take orders from customers who would like to receive an Acura TL based conversion car. In the future, we also intend to produce the vehicle without converting an existing automobile. Technology: Lithium Ion Batteries provide more power and lighter weight than any of the readily available battery types that can power electric vehicles. Unlike the lithium ion cobalt batteries used to power cell phones, laptop computers and some other electric cars, lithium ion phosphate batteries do not have a history of runaway thermal overheating.
Key Persons and Organizations
Potential Difference has assembled a talented team of industry experts, and professional service providers to provide sound advice and leadership in areas of design and development, technology, operations, marketing and advertising, and fund raising.
Elliott Small, President, has a bachelor's degree from Harvard College with a major in Biochemical Sciences. He first became involved with electric automobile technology in 1978. He has extensive experience in mobilizing resources for electric vehicle development for other companies. Since 2005, he has applied those efforts to his own electric vehicle enterprise, resulting in the creation of Potential Difference, Inc. in 2007. He is the founder and initial investor.
The Vice President for Engineering and Fabrication owns the facility with which PDI contracted to do the conversion. He has provided invaluable technical expertise and resourcefulness. He has successfully converted other vehicles to electricity during the last several years. He is a licensed electrician who has 39 years of technical experience including automotive machining, electrical appliance development, electronic device repair and installation, residential and commercial solar installations.
A PDI auto technology consultant is a Team Leader for the Aerospace, Transportation & Advanced Systems Laboratory at a major university and one of their Senior Research Engineers. Among others, he holds these two patents: Advanced State of Charge Determination System (Pulse Charging for Batteries) and Advanced Regenerative Braking System. On several occasions, he has advised Elliott on electric car development since 2002.
A promotional company has contracted with PDI to plan the promotion of the PDI electric car. That company's founder has more than a decade of top-tier television and Internet management experience, serving in the senior management teams at major media organizations. In these positions, he has managed staffs of more than 200 employees, and annual budgets in excess of $40 million. He has negotiated landmark deals with major media entities in news, sports and entertainment for the carriage, distribution and packaging rights to their content over IP, at various times managing relationships with four of the largest media companies in the world.
Russell Robertson and Jeanne Pfordresher are partners in Hybrid Product Design and Development, Inc., a full service industrial design and engineering firm located in Brooklyn NY. (hybridny.com) Hybrid does not refer to hybrid cars. It refers to their design approach. They developed the body design for the production version of the PDI electric car. They both have BFA degrees in Industrial Design from the Cleveland Institute of Art and Design. Both have been Professors of Industrial Design at Parson’s School of Design and Pratt Institute in New York and therefore have access to a large and talented pool of designers and engineers. Russell is a past chair of the largest NY chapter of the Industrial Designers Society of America.

Acura TL conversion prices will be negotiated. Costs change regularly. The pricing for one custom build will be substantially higher than the projected production prices for 2010. Delivery is about 3 months.
